Context
The Godrej Management Institute conceptual design was initially presented and approved in 2004. The project went on hold due to certain changes in environmental policy but was revived in 2015. This institute was intended to be the new hub of the Center for Environmental for India, which is the prime green energy rating and management agency in India.
Concept
The approach involved re-using the footprint of the existing columns and ground coverage limits imposed by the previous plan, leading to a completely radical idea. The structure was designed to appear as an extension of the hill immediately behind it. The plan is essentially composed of two main elements: a radiating scabbard form that picks up two radial geometries housing offices, seminars, and other functions, and the trapezoidal form of the auditorium that intersects the scabbard. The radial geometries feature a green shell roof that serves both thermal and water run-off requirements.
The internal spaces are an evolution of the form, including a hub zone for discussion and forums for the management institute, an inside-outside library, and a cafe that sits partly on mushroom pods. When complete, the space is intended to serve numerous stalwarts, including the Confederation of Indian Industry.
