      Context

The client requested an East Asian Villa, with the indoors and outdoors as one. They needed an infinity pool for photography attached to the house.

      Concept

We designed a multi-structure loose ensemble villa, with spacious corridors, a floating roof, and an infinity pool. Each bedroom is its own structure in a De-Stijl-like pattern, connected with swooping corridors where the roofs merge. Clay tile roofs cover all the structures. A cantilever stair leads to the terrace for sweeping vistas of the mountain beyond. The front entry has a portico started with vines and creepers to provide shade and be fully covered. Walls are a combination of earthen and block as the need may be. One of the key design responses was cantilevering the corners of each room such that when the sliding doors are pulled away, it appears as if you are outdoors but yet in reality indoors. In essence, this is a house of verandas.
