Context
The Kaunas Auditorium competition required for the design of a cultural center on a spit of land on the banks of the Nemunas river in Kaunas Lithuania. The program included auditoriums, landscape architecture, back of house and administrative spaces.
Concept
The project inferences included Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis a polymath/genius who was an exponent in the arts, music, and math among other things. Our concept approach decided on the metaphor of a river bank pebble shaped lattice frame shell resting on four simple cradles thereby providing the river to takes its course and modify sedimentation and erosion patterns. Our objects within the pebble included 2 auditoriums both suspended from this lattice structure shell to keep things as delicate and light with views north to the main city and views through the shell to the river panorama on all side.
